Receiving God's Best

One thing I've learned over the years is that we have a choice in everything we do. We even have a choice regarding what kind of life we live, how we live and who we choose to share our life with. God gives us choices and that's a great thing, but have you ever stopped to consider how your life would be if you chose God's way? Proverbs 14:12 (NASB) says that there is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. The thought that my way of doing things seems right to me, but may not be is unsettling. That's the main reason why I always seek God's will for every aspect of my life because I know that he not only knows what's best, but he wants the best for us. In Isaiah 55, God said that His thoughts are not our thoughts and neither are our ways His ways. He also goes on to say that as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than ours and His thoughts higher than ours. That tells me that even my highest thought and my biggest dream is no match for the Father. That his thoughts and dreams for my life are much greater than I could ever imagine. And time and time again he's proved that to be true. God's best is just that - His best. It can't be topped. In every aspect of our lives, from relationships to finances to big dreams, God wants to give us his absolute best; but unless we are in position to receive his best, we won't receive it. So how do we receive God's best? We get into position.

Physical location. Getting into position could mean a number of things. For one, our physical location. Many times we need to be in the right places at the right times so we can access the right opportunities that God has for us. Think about the woman who had an issue of blood for 12 years. Despite the fact that no one was able to heal her, despite the fact that she was weak and tired from losing so much blood, she made sure she was in the right place at the right time to access that opportunity of healing that she couldn't have received otherwise. She made it her business to be where Jesus was. She knew that Jesus was the answer to her issue. She knew that if she could just get in his presence and touch his garment she would be healed. And it was so. Make sure you are in close proximity to Jesus in all you do.

The position of the heart. When speaking of the position of the heart, understand that if you are not walking in love you are not in position to receive God's best. God says above all else guard your heart, for out of it springs the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). So what are you guarding your heart against? Ephesians 4:31 says,"get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice." You have to protect your heart from these things because they will clog up the flow of love and power. So how do you guard from such things? Take note of Psalm 1:

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by the streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

So in other words, guard your heart, be mindful of the company you keep and meditate on the Word of God - consistently. This is a way of life and it's much easier on the spirit, soul and body of a person who walks in love and in the light than it is to carry the heaven burdens of the issues of life. Those we are to give to God, as he has the capacity to carry such loads. When you walk in love you can receive all that God wants to give you. You can see the opportunities that he places before your eyes.

Position of full surrender. God is so good! He wants us to give everything over to him. He doesn't want us to worry or be concerned about anything. All God wants us to do is take care of our divine assignments. God wants us to take care of his business while he takes care of ours. But him taking care of our business would require us to surrender every aspect of our life to him. If we don't, he can't move on our behalf. Many times he will lead you into a place where you have no choice but to surrender. He can allow you to get to a place where you're at the end of a thing: finances, marriage, family relationships, career path and health - where you have no one else to turn to for help, but him. It's at that very moment where God can step in and show himself mighty to you. And trust me, he's waiting to do it. He's eagerly waiting for you to surrender your whole life to him for good. Not surrendering it and when he saves the day you take matters back into your own hands. That's not the way. Just give it to him, take a deep breath and relax. Wouldn't it be easier to give it up anyway? And trust me, I know, it's a scary thought and thing to do at first. For me, my biggest obstacle was the fact that I couldn't see God. I knew he was there, I felt his presence all the time. I heard his voice. But I just couldn't see him. And many times for us as human beings, seeing is believing. But in the kingdom of God, believing is seeing.

So how can we receive God's best, by getting in position to receive. Getting in position is going to require us to take some steps of our own though. For one, we need to spend quality time with God and read his Word and we must do this more than one day a week. God is about relationship. We need to develop a relationship with him so trust can develop. I think this goes for every relationship. You have to build the trust and you just can't do that if you're keeping a person at arm's length. Spending time with God will get you more acclimated to hearing his voice. And when you can hear his voice you can get instruction and guidance from him regarding your life and the plans he has for it. This is key to being at the right places at the right times to access the right opportunities. Next, you need to walk in obedience. If God says move to another state, you need to be able to not only hear that instruction, but you need to obey that instruction. Why? Because that's how you receive God's best. He rewards obedience. I wonder how many opportunities you've missed already because you haven't been obeying the instructions from God? Remember, God's best is bigger and better than you can imagine. He wants you to have an abundant life, a prosperous life, a full life. He wants you to live and not merely exist. He wants to set you apart and distinguish you from those in the world. He loves you and wants you to fully trust him with your life so he can be your God and you his people.
